July 10
Leisurely start to the day, leaving the campground around 11am. Another blue blazer day. Saw an interesting use of excess baseball caps west of Greenwood (Myrna, you would love it). Someone put them atop their fence posts around their field. I apologize for the blurry pictures, and I shouldn't have been zoomed in so far, as I couldn't capture more than one hat at time. Learning curve with the camera. Not used to shooting on the move.

Greenwood looked like an interesting place - it is officially Canada's smallest city, and claims to have the best drinking water in Canada. Unfortunately, I didn't think to suggest we stop and check it out until we were well past. However, with a city that small, by the time we bring everything to a stop, we're outside the city limits. Anyway, I think it was fate intervening, to keep us on its schedule.
We continued on into Castlegar and after fueling up, decided on the spur of the moment to pop into the A&W and get some lunch. Just as I was turning to leave with our order, I heard someone call my name and looked up to see our former PG neighbour from Valley Crescent, Dan. He and his family moved to Castlegar a few years back. He was actually just finishing a late lunch because his car was in the shop. All the stars aligned!! Great to reconnect.

Upper Bonnington spillway on Kootenay River
Continued on our way to Nelson and the Balfour ferry. River was running high and the spillways on the dams were wide open. Earlier in the week, one of them actually had water rushing over the top of the dam, even though all the gates were open.
Had plans to visit a former co-worker in Crawford Bay. When we reached Nelson, I tried to call without success (all three numbers we had), so used the GPS to find her place. Headed up her street - a long, steep dirt road - but couldn't find a driveway with her address. Eventually came to a dead end. After a few tense moments in the cab (those of you married for any length of time will know of what I speak), and a lot of pull ahead/back up (fortunately the road had widened quite a bit at this point) we eventually got the rig turned around and facing downhill again. Tried calling again, and this time she answered her cell phone and told me they were in OK Landing - had been delayed on a trip back from the Island (or maybe they forgot when we were coming, who knows).
So decided to just continue on to Creston and park for a couple of nights to relax. We are at Scottie's RV Park, right across the street from Columbia Brewery, but they don't seem to be handing out samples at the gate!! OH YEA - I drove the 5th wheel today. Granted it was only about 30 feet, as I pulled the unit ahead while Robin was in the park office. Another HOT, HOT day but the air conditioning works great in the trailer.
