Sept 24/12
Home again, home again, jig-a-jig-jig. Took the ferry back from Port Townsend to Whidby Island (rather than drive all the way down to Tacoma and back up). Another beautiful, sunny day, but when we arrived in Port Townsend we could see a big fog bank out in the channel. We headed straight through it.
I had stayed in the truck for a while once we were on board, and then went to find the rest of my crew. Started at the top (open) deck, down to the next level and when I hit the third level down, there was absolutely no one else there. And we were just heading into the fog bank. I was all alone, with the outside world rapidly disappearing. Was I becoming an episode of Twilight Zone? I remember watching one once where people disappeared into fog, never to be seen again. Didn't find the rest of my gang, so descended to the car deck where life returned to normal. Once across the water and disembarked, we headed for the Canadian border. A couple of stops along the way (including the obligatory stop at Costco for cheese), and we hit Canadian soil around 4:30. A great trip, but good to be home. Don't expect we'll be wandering again until mid to late January. Will keep you posted.
