Sept 14/12
I must start off by saying "Rest in peace, Bob". He left us on Sunday, July 29th. It was so fast, but if he had to go, he wanted it that way. A lovely memorial service was held for him at his beloved Legion on August 4th. He will be deeply missed by so many, but we have such wonderful memories to carry forward. We are so thankful we got to spend some more time with him.
So, back on the road again. Other than a 5-day campout at Cultus Lake over the August long weekend, with the Summer family and others, the trailer's been patiently waiting to start wandering. So we're off and running with Ray and Pat Smith, south of the border. Today's destination was Fidalgo Bay at Anacortes, but after today, who knows.
Started off on a bit of a down note when Robin pulled the trailer out of the compound. The motorhome next to us was parked so close we couldn't open the trailer door. So, with the tight turns to get out, the back end of the trailer clipped the side mirror on the motorhome. Of course, it's one of those huge electric two part mirrors. Discussed with the fellow that operates the compound and he will see if he can fix it. If not, he'll let us know the damage when we get back. And he'll be sure to tell the motorhome owner not to park so close.
Wait at the border wasn't too terribly long, maybe about 20 minutes, and the border guard was very nice. No scowling, or making you feel like a criminal. We met up with Pat & Smitty at the Cost Cutter in Bellingham to stock up on groceries and booze. Boy, produce is expensive down here - kind of offsets the savings on booze. Oh well, have to at least appear to be eating healthy. Had a bite of lunch in the parking lot and headed for Fidalgo Bay.
We were here last year, but in mid-October. It was cold and rainy then, but we stuck it out for three nights. Today it's a totally different atmosphere - sun shining, 20+ degrees. Nice breeze off the ocean, until the sun went down and then the breeze got quite cool. We hosted dinner tonight, and spent the evening listening to music, telling stories and sharing opinions. Great company.
