WE'RE HOME. 151 days after we drove our motorhome into the United States, it is back on Canadian soil. Our bodies returned briefly in that time period, but now we are back for at least a month or two.
Without a doubt, the easiest border crossing we have ever experienced. Only questions were "What is the value of the goods you are bringing back?" and "Are they all with you?" After that it was "Have a nice day." and we were on our way home to our little bungalow. Nothing about alcohol, how long were you gone, or any of the other myriad of questions we have encountered in the past. Of course, after we crossed the border and were about half way home, it started to rain, but by the time we reached our destination, it had stopped and the sun came out to greet us. But damn, the wind was cold.
Took us about an hour to get everything unloaded (and I mean just about everything). Thanks to the generosity of our neighbours, Perry & Bev, we are able to park our motorhome on their RV pad just 4 doors away (they are still in Arizona for a couple more weeks). Will be handy for the big top to bottom cleaning that must be done. Also, we encountered some issues with one of the slides not wanting to come in this morning, so Robin will have to check on that. No, we didn't drive down the highway with it sticking out - it did eventually slide in. May just take it to our RV guy to have it checked out. Time to get a new motorhome!
Now we are facing a mountain of laundry, and a great deal of sorting, reorganizing and putting away of everything that came out of the rig. And Robin (the bad guy, putting it politely) dumped all kinds of clothing, etc. all over our bed, so I figured we could just sleep in the spare bedroom tonight. But NO, he did it on purpose because he was adamant that we sleep in our home bed tonight and if all the stuff was on the bed, we would have to put it away to sleep there. So it was duly cleared of all matter. I guess that's good, because then there is one less thing to deal with tomorrow.
A big thanks to our neighbours, Tony & Doreen, who noticed we were back and promptly came over and invited us to come for dinner. Otherwise, it probably would have been pizza delivery. Instead we had a lovely rib dinner, good company and wine (probably would have had the wine anyway).
We both agree that 5 months away is just too long, at least if we are sitting in one spot (and I think even if we were moving around). We are optimistic things will work out for our neighbours to the south, and have booked back into Mesa Regal for next winter, but only for three months - in a new spot on the same street but across and up a couple from where we have been the last two years. Nice, big concrete area, so things will stay cleaner and we won't be tracking in little stones on our shoes. We really like the park, but we really love the people we share the street with. Thank you all for making our time away from home so wonderful.
Now we can look forward to hugging our family members later this week, after a too-long spell.
Until our next travel adventure, dear readers.
