Where we laid our heads tonight.
Today was good. Perhaps because we didn't move on down the road? We decided to just sit and relax here today, and move on tomorrow. Weather here was overcast all day, but no rain until tonight, unlike areas surrounding us that were pelted.
Lazy morning, then on a recommendation from our dear friend, Pat, we headed into Longview (Kelso and Longview run together) and checked out Commerce Ave, which is full of thrift and antique shops. Lots of "stuff" but nothing screamed out "buy me". Had lunch at an interesting little restaurant called Lynn's. Slow service, but the food was good - at least until I got 2/3 through my bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup and discovered a twist tie. And it was such good soup, with an interesting lemony twist to the flavour.
Interesting array of folks in there, as well. One woman was wolfing down a bowl of soup and seemed a bit twitchy. When she finished, she put her head down on the table and continued to toss about. I think she was either drunk or stoned. She left after a short time, but did return later, looking very unsteady on her feet, but kept on going when she noticed someone's stuff at "her" table by the door.
And behind us was two middle-aged women with an older woman who was 101. Tough not to hear their conversations, as they raised the level whenever speaking to the older woman. She seemed pretty spry and with it, refusing to take ibuprofen because she's always taken aspirin on her doctor's orders (even though the other ladies told her the doctor told them she could take the ibu for her pain). It was hard to figure out if the frustration in each woman's voice was because she was always firm about what she wanted, or if they were always trying to tell her what to do.
And then there was the guy sitting at one table, who realized the two guys at the table beside him were with Comcast (one was wearing a shirt with Comcast on it) and started to grill them about something to do with a service transfer or something.
Interesting folks and great people watching.
After picking up some groceries, we headed back to camp, relaxed for a while, then got supper on the grill. Storm clouds were building, and a bit of thunder just as we sat down to dinner. Then the rain started, and has been coming down, off and on, heavy and light, since about 7. Poor Robin stood in the doorwell (screen open) as he pushed the button to pull in the awning, and suddenly he was taking a shower. Couldn't stop myself from laughing, but he was laughing too.
Let's hope this rain will pass by the morning. Have decided to bypass Newport (we were there 3 years ago) and go to Lincoln City and camp there for 3 or 4 days. For now, I think we'll plug in the computer and watch a movie or something.
Until tomorrow, dear followers.
