Where we laid our heads tonight.
We’ve talked about doing it just about every day since we left, but by the time we get back from our day’s adventures, we’re just too tired. I just don’t want to start anything I won’t feel like finishing, and I can’t leave it to Robin to do alone.
OH NO, I’m not talking about that. We are over 60 and it’s still almost four months until Christmas, so you know it can’t be that. I’m talking about purging and reorganizing. This morning I decided that before I even hit the showers, I was going to get this job done. For a while it looked like a bomb had gone off - bench cushions tossed about and the plywood bases leaning against walls; dishes and cookware everywhere. But eventually a place was found for everything and we were both feeling satisfied. Hmm! Kind of the same results as that!
Anyway, by then it was time for another late lunch, and finally we were out the door by 2pm. The sky had been cloudy all morning (I think just high fog, but not sure). We decided to head to Seaside, about 10 miles south. The sun was shining at Seaside, but there was a big fog bank out a ways over the ocean, and clouds, or fog, to the east. Very much a summer resort town. A lovely promenade along the lengthy beach, even a big swing set on the main beach, and a small aquarium. We opted not to go in –don’t think it would come close to the Vancouver Aquarium. But we could hear (and slightly see) the seals splashing around in a big tank near the front entrance. Lots of interesting little stores along the main downtown street; arcades, lots of different gift shops, a little mall with a carousel (appropriately called Seaside Carousel Mall).
The beach at Seaside - can you spot the swing set in the first picture?

More homage to Lewis & Clark.
After strolling around for a couple of hours, we stopped for a cup of coffee and an iced chai latte, then headed back to the car and found the nearby Safeway to get something for supper. While in Safeway we got chatting with a local woman and she said that it was a relief to have things calmed down after the summer madness. I guess it’s pretty crazy in Seaside during the summer. I can see why – I think it would be a great place to bring a family for vacation.
The always beautiful Pacific Ocean. I think I was trying to capture the pelicans swooping up and down in a line, like they were on a roller coaster. But with the bright sun, I couldn't see anything on the camera monitor, so was just shooting blind. This was actually shot a couple of days ago at Fort Stevens (near the ship wreck), but I forgot it was in the small camera.

It was about 6 when we got back to the park. Put dinner in the oven, caught a bit of news on the TV while it was cooking, then had a relaxing evening after dinner (burned off the last of the firewood). Tomorrow we move on.
Until next time, dear followers.
