Monday we said goodbye to Fernie, then headed on to new-to-us byways, following Highway 95 over the border, south to Couer D'Alene and west to Spokane. Had picked out a campground east of Spokane, and thankful we only booked in for two nights. They always look so much better on the website. Old park and, while the spots are nice enough (pull through with a bit of grass and shade trees), the buildings are old (but clean), the wifi pretty much non-existent, and they have "enlarged" the sites by painting yellow lines out into the roadways and you stay within those lines. Makes for some pretty tight turns if the spots behind and in front of you are in use. But, worst of all, the campground is RIGHT BESIDE Interstate 90. At least we had the AC running all day and it pretty much drowned out the highway sounds. Definitely kept the windows (at least on the highway side of the rig) closed at night.
Hot, hot, hot when we arrived (about 35) and the forecast is for even hotter (39) in the days ahead. Too hot to do anything, and no pool to cool off in.
Lazy morning Tuesday, researching our next destination and just trying to get up the courage to venture back into the heat. Nothing we found on line inspired us to go sightseeing in Spokane. Perhaps if they weren't forecasting for 35+ degrees, we may have taken in some sights. But they were, so we weren't. We decided to stay cool in a couple of stores/malls. Found some bargains (both of us), so time well spent. By the time we were done, we decided it was too hot to cook, and, since we'd both missed lunch, cooking dinner would take too long, so we dined out. It was still 36 degrees when we got back to the rig around 7, but the AC had been running all day, so it was much more bearable inside. Tomorrow we hit the trail again, headed to Steamboat Rock State Park.
