Tuesday was blustery and cold (relatively speaking). By the time aquafit classes rolled around, Pauline and I decided it was still too chilly, with the wind, to hit the pool. In the meantime, Robin and Norm hit the links again late morning. Bit of a challenge with the wind. Norm and Pam joined us later for happy hour, dinner and a visit, including some "drunk dialing" to some mutual friends in Langley. Great talking with you, Dennis and Cheryl. Miss you guys.
Wednesday we spent most of the day driving around checking out RV parks in anticipation of next year. Wind is getting to be a bit much, but then we are on the edge of a windmill field, so it's not totally unexpected. But you have to give it a try to see how much it bothers you, and it is starting to be a bit of a pain.
Thursday found us on the golf course bright and early with Ron and Norm again. Still windy, but not as bad as Tuesday, and not at all cold. Aquafit at noon for me and then we both tackled laundry and lazed around the pool while the clothes were getting clean and dry. Spent the evening playing cards with another couple from the park, Ed and Karen. They also play canasta on Friday's, plus Karen participates in the aquafit and belly dancing with me. Karen and I had been talking about getting together to play bridge, so last night was the night. We also played a quick round of canasta, to refresh Robin's memory. Perhaps we'll get him out on Friday's (although we only have a couple left here).
Friday we went and checked out a couple of RV parks we didn't get to on Wednesday, then did some shopping (successfully this time) before meeting up with Fischer's at Gilbertson's. Gilbertson's had put one set of kids on the plane that morning, and were expecting the next set the next afternoon, so had a window of opportunity for a more intimate visit. We all walked over to the country club restaurant for an awesome all-you-can-eat, cooked-to-order pasta buffet. Great food followed by a visit to the club lounge to listen and dance to a good duet, and watch the rich folks get snockered. Robin says he's never before seen so many face lifts in one place. Enjoyable stroll back to Gilbertson's in the balmy Palm Desert air, then Fischer's headed back to the RV park, and we stayed the night again. More good times with good friends.
Saturday we headed from Gilbertson's back to Indio to put a deposit on a site in a different park for next year. As much as we like the park and the people where we are now, for us, after several straight days of wind, it's not an overly attractive location any more. Anyway, we figured we should get our name in ASAP, as sites were going fast. We haven't definitely decided we'll be back to this area next year, but we only lose $10 of our deposit if we cancel. From there we headed to the 3rd annual Canada/Snowbird Fest. Rather disappointed (after an $8 each entry fee) with the number and type of displays, but we did pick up a few freebies (including two boxes of Russel Stover chocolates won on the spin of a wheel, and some photo booth shots - one below).

After that, we met up with the McLaughlin's for a late lunch. They had driven over from Hemet for the day, primarily to check out the College of the Desert Street Fair (John was looking for a particular flag and found it).
Today was windy in all the areas we hit, so we could well imagine what it must have been like back at base camp. We heard from others that some stretches of road near Palm Springs were closed down on Saturday due to blowing sand. Back to the rig by 4pm to find the wind still blowing and both our bird feeders lying on the ground. In fact, the base of one feeder was up the street on another driveway, but nothing broken. Probably a good thing we had pulled in our slides again before we left. Quiet evening in. We're supposed to golf in the morning, but they're forecasting rain, so probably won't happen.
Stay tuned, dear readers.
