Jan 19 - Jan 25
Saturday, 19th was Robin's birthday. He decided he wanted a birthday lunch at the WooChi Super Buffet - Chinese, Sushi and Mongolian made-to-order stir fry. WOW! What a selection and everything was fresh and tasty. The huge chicken wings (or were they actually turkey wings? 😉) were just a tad greasy, but maybe that was just that particular batch. Tasty nevertheless. We had a late lunch, so needless to say, dinner was a no go.
Sunday, 20th pot luck dinner courtesy of Phil & Paula. Paula made a huge pile of crab cakes that were AMAZING and BBQ'd salmon (all caught by Phil & Paula off Washington's west coast). Salads and sides were great, as were the deserts. A few of us gathered at our place later planning to watch the blood moon and lunar eclipse. We had some cloud cover, that came and went but rarely completely covered the moon, but after about 1.5 hours of sitting waiting without much happening, and it was getting quite cold, we all decided to pack it in and hunker down in our units. Took the occasional look out the window and did see the almost full eclipse, but didn't catch the blood portion.
Monday, 21st Robin went for a hike in the morning and I spent 3 hours (starting at 6:30am Pacific time) trying to make camping reservations for the May long weekend back home. I missed line dancing. 😒 The campground has a new online reservation system and obviously it wasn't working very good. I also tried calling when the phone lines opened at 9am, but once I actually got through I was only able to leave a message. Then, on their Facebook page and website they were suggesting people email them due to the problems with the online system and the clogged phone lines, so I did that as well. I did get a personalized response that someone would get back to me as soon as possible. Later, I read that even folks who went on line in the wee hours of the morning (like 12:30 am) were having problems.
The afternoon found me at a Whine & Art class. There were over 80 people in attendance, sipping wine, eating tasty snacks and being creative. I'm not used to painting on a short time line (I tend to be a bit slow and meticulous - anal, if you choose) so I can certainly see things I could have done better or fixed given more time (and better brushes🤨), but I'm looking forward to the next one in February. In the meantime, I start a 5-session oil painting class next week.

Robin got hit fast and hard with a cold today. He was fine until around lunch. He thought he had scratched his throat with something he ate at lunch, but as the day wore on he was feeling more dragged out and more congested and by 9:30 he was in bed and conked out on Nyquil.
Tuesday, Jan 22nd - I did manage to get a campground reservation through the online system, but we're still trying to sort out the site. Both I and Alison asked to be placed close together, but when we each got our site numbers a couple of days later, we are at opposite ends of the park. Still working on it.
Friday, Jan 25th. ELEVEN MONTHS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!! It's been a quiet few days. Robin is on the mend and, knock on wood, I haven't felt anything yet. I've been popping extra Vitamin C. Robin had a cold before we came south and I managed to avoid getting it, but I seem to get a doozy cold every year when we come here, so I'm not holding out a lot of hope for anything different this year.
We joined a number of folks from 4th street for a breakfast at Crackers & Co. Got to meet some new residents. Breakfast was good, but when they try and serve everyone in the group at the same time (there was about 25 of us), someone's food is going to be cold, or barely warm. Cold was what I got today, although when I think about it, it seems that every year the best I've been served is warm. Fortunately, even cold, my eggs benny were still tasty, so can only imagine how much better they would have been if they were hot, or even luke warm. Robin seems to be pretty much recovered. He was well enough to make a visit to the patio for happy 1.5 hour today (the bar has cut it back from 2 to 1.5, I presume for cost saving reasons) and we made the best of it, once again. Great company, as always and lots of laughs, as always. The park is good, but it really is the people that keep us coming back year after year.
Until next time, dear readers.
