Where we've stopped tonight |
And we're off. Thanks to my new tablet, I can make notes as we go along, instead of relying on the unreliable grey matter in my skull. So you will probably find that much of my "patter" will be in "real time", at least on those days when we are driving the behemouth.
Robin was awake at 3:30 apparently. I woke at 5:30 to visit the powder room. Shortly after crawling back under the warm covers, I realized he was awake, so figured we might as well get up and at it. It's 8:30 and a bit later than we might have expected to head off, but you have to have something go wrong, don't you? One of the last things to do is make coffee for Robin's thermos. Unfortunately, he forgot to put the filter basket in and when we returned to the kitchen, there was some coffee in the pot, and also almost as much in the drawer and cupboard under the coffee maker. So clean up ensued with nary a bad word but several long sighs. And, of course, the rain had to start just as we were about to hook up the car. But we're on our way.
Long line at the border - at least the longest we've ever encountered. Highway sign said 20 minute wait, but I'm looking at the line and thinking nay, nay. And I am right, right. Let's go with 40 minutes. Guess it's just that busy time of day.
Cold and damp start to the day and chilly in the motor home. Had to keep the heat going on the windshield to keep it from fogging up, so I'm wearing 2 heavy sweaters and a windbreaker. Pouring rain until Burlington WA, then it backed right off to a light drizzle and brighter skies are seen ahead over Seattle. Unfortunately, it turned out the bright skies were over the ocean, and that's not where we're going. Cloudy skies prevailed, with occasional cloud bursts, then back to steady rain and low clouds. By the time we passed through the Portland area, the rain had let up and stayed away. But the fog was starting to build as the sky darkened and rush hour got underway. Weather-wise, today is a good reminder of why we are clocking the miles (or kilometers for those of you in Canada).
The drive wasn't too bad, although we skirted around both Seattle and Portland. Both alternate routes were busy, and we did hit a few bottlenecks, particularly around Portland, since it was rush hour. It is really different for me, being in the behemouth bus. I feel like we are about to sideswipe (or be sideswiped by) any vehicle that pulls up beside us on the freeway, especially when all the cars are zipping in and out of the lanes. I feel a bit claustrophobic and it's a bit un-nerving. And don't ask how I'm doing when a semi comes up beside me! I like it when we can just cruise down the outside lane. So Karen, this one's for you - I don't HATE the I-5 quite as much as last year, but it sure makes me really uncomfortable. Anyway, I'm trying out the camera on my tablet. Nothing exciting, just some of the traffic and the view from our big front window.

Once we got set up, we headed over to Elmer's for supper, then back to the behemouth for a glass of wine, doing the blog and then off to bed.
For all my girls that love to shop, I hate to tell you that we are parked right behind the big Premium Outlet Mall in Woodburn. EEK!!! And I'm not even going over. Not enough time, and quite frankly, not enough energy after 8 hours on the road. So a very sad end to my day.
So until next time dear followers, give someone a hug and/or a smile.
