I think my back teeth are still vibrating from all the shake, rattle and roll created by the California highways yesterday, particularly from Santa Clarita south and east. We thought we had the TV well secured, but one of the pool noodles (padding) jiggled free and at one point I was afraid the TV was going to shake itself completely loose and crash to the floor between us.
Headed out this morning to try and find a bathing suit and to get some more groceries. Last night’s hot tub lady had mentioned that, as it is winter here, bathing suits are hard to find. Tried Costco first, but you can’t do try-ons on there, and I don’t want to be running back and forth buying and returning. Then we tried Kohl’s and Walmart, and while each had some suits, the selection was limited. I noticed a Target on our way back, so will maybe pop in there tomorrow, and maybe check out a couple of swim shops in Palm Desert, about 15 minutes away, and see what they have to offer. In the meantime, I may have to resort to a pair of shorts and a tank top. So frustrating when I know there are two suits sitting in my drawer at home.
Spent a good chunk of the afternoon trying to get the cablevision working, doing and re-doing the cable/antenna scan. Tomorrow is football day, so we need to get this puppy working. Someone on staff came around with an old TV and hooked up to the cable and said everything was fine at the provider end. We eventually determined that there is a problem somewhere in the lines within the behemouth. Robin ran a cable through the front window directly to the TV and it’s now working fine. It’ll be fun and games trying to figure out where the problem is. Hopefully it’s just something loose at one of the ends that we can get to easily.
Headed off to New Year’s Eve festivities at the clubhouse at 8. Ended up at a table with 14 other people. One couple was from Oregon and the rest were Canadians (all from BC, I believe). In fact, the couple who sat beside Robin was from Nanaimo, and knew a lot of people who used to work at Harmac (where Robin worked while we lived there). It took a while, but they eventually came up with a name they all knew. Really nice group of people (obviously all regulars in this park) and we had an enjoyable evening. They did not, in fact, celebrate the New Year at 9, but hung in there until midnight. The entertainer wasn’t too bad. Just a guy with his computer and sound system, and a karaoke program. So even if his singing occasionally wasn’t the greatest, the backup music was good. But for the most part, he was pretty decent and sometimes even managed to sound like the original performer. He was taking requests, and a couple of times did songs he had never done before (and you could tell). I debated asking him if he had Thunderstruck or Mony, Mony in his repertoire. Had a few dances, met some very nice people, rang in the New Year and stumbled (due to body aches more than alcohol) back to the behemouth.
Happy New Year everyone. Wishing you health and happiness in 2014 (and a little wealth would also be nice). Until next time dear followers, give someone a hug and/or a smile.
