Where we've stopped tonight |
On the road by 8:30. Robin must have been really tired last night. He was sound asleep by 9:30 and didn't wake up until 7 this morning. I was surprised because I knew he wanted to get an early start this morning. We had planned to head for Weed, CA today (OK, stop your sniggering, guffawing and wink-wink-nudge-nudging), but on checking the weather, the forecast is for -6 tonight. Could be a bit risky for the water lines in the behemouth, so will probably push through another hour and a bit to Redding. By the way, I know I'm misspelling behemoth, but I equate the beast to a very large baby bird with its mouth always open for food.
We were talking about how nice a hot tub would have been last night when I realized that I forgot to pack my bathing suit. Many a woman would be thrilled at the prospect of an excuse to go shopping. However, for a woman of my vintage, shopping for a bathing suit is not an occasion eagerly anticipated or celebrated.
No rain this morning, but it's foggy. At least it's good visibility for about a quarter mile. Just passed a field full of sheep and could see lots of lambs. So cute! Sorry, no picture.

The drive through the southern part of Oregon is really quite nice. What is especially pretty, this time of year, is the deciduous trees covered in moss. Even though there are no leaves, the trees are still green.
Just left from our gas-up and lunch stop at Seven Feathers (Canyonville, OR), climbed a big hill and drove into gorgeous sunshine, but only for a couple of minutes, then back into high fog. And the higher we climbed the lower the fog got. Then suddenly, sunshine again. Fog frost on a lot of the trees throughout the Siskiyou pass.
We crossed into California at 2:08. Sunshine, blue skies and patches of snow on the hillsides. Must admit that the not so fondly remembered truck lanes on the California highways don’t seem quite so bad this year (at least no so far). Quite a different view of Mt. Shasta this year. No where near as much snow as when we came through in late January last year.
Near Yreka we spotted some donkeys in a field, and in the next field some llama’s. There was one donkey that looked like one of his parents must have slipped into the adjoining field. His coat looked fluffier than the other donkeys’ and his colouring was the white/black/tan that you often see on llama’s (and much like some of the ones in the adjoining field). Would have loved to stop and have a closer look.
The sun was so warm pouring in that eventually I had to open the window. It felt like spring, driving down the highway with my arm hanging out in the breeze.
Arrived in Redding around 4:30 to warm air (no jackets required), although once the sun started to set, it cooled down quite quickly. All in all a good day’s drive and a good drive.
So until next time dear followers, give someone a hug and/or a smile.
