Headed up to Sedona and red rock territory today. Some pretty amazing scenery. Sedona actually reminded me a whole bunch of Jasper and Banff – cute little town, set in amongst some gorgeous mountains (except red in colour, and no snow), with lots of tourists, and high prices. The only thing different was a definite lack of Asian faces. We toured some of the main tourist (ie shopping) street, walking about 3 blocks up one side and then back down the other, but it was pretty much just the same old, same old, with a few exceptions. We headed up to the vista on the mesa where the airport is located, and had our picnic lunch up on the airport grounds. We had planned to stop at Tlaquepaque, the artisan village, but quite frankly (and I know you’ll find this hard to believe), I thought I was shopped out (plus I figured the stuff would probably be really expensive).

As we started heading south, we decided to stop at a place called Son Silver West (had spotted it on the way into Sedona). They had lots of pottery and metal work visible from the highway. Well, what a great place! They had room after room of all kinds of different things, most quite reasonably priced, but also some higher end items if that’s what you’re looking for. Just when we thought we’d seen everything, we’d find another little room off the end of a room, or around a corner. One of those fun places where there’s so much stuff, you really have to take your time and look up, down and all around so you don’t miss something you just have to have.
From there, we headed a bit further south to the Chapel of the Holy Cross, which we had spotted from the highway on our way up to Sedona. A very imposing structure from the outside, with a small chapel inside. There is also an office and gift shop below the chapel, but we didn't go down. And it has a million dollar view – literally. Not only because of the beautiful mountains all around, but because it looks down over a house that must be worth millions.

After dinner we headed up to the office area to get a wifi connection and try and find campgrounds around Bryce Canyon in Utah, our planned second stop from here. So many of them don’t open until April 1st or later, so we may have to pass on visiting that area this time around. We will have to do some more digging and may head to Zion park instead. Will have to look at weather forecasts and elevations as well. With the colder nights, we have to have electric hookup so we can run the furnace. Got caught up on some other stuff, but obviously not my blog this time around.
Until next time dear followers, if swimming is so good for your figure, how do you explain whales?
