Tues – Feb 18
I hung around the park all day. Trip to the pool hall to catch up on the blog (at least through Sunday) and take care of other business via computer. Robin went over in the morning to help with the set-up of picnic tables, etc. for tomorrow’s recycling picnic. There are some volunteers who take care of all the recyclable material from the park. As a thank you (for their work and to the other visitors who take the time to recycle) the park owner provides hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone that signs up for the picnic. You are just asked to bring an appy, salad or dessert. They are expecting about 220 people tomorrow. In the afternoon, Robin took the car into town for an oil change and to run some errands. I held down the chairs at our site, and continued to make sure my Kindle was being fully utilized. Another relaxing day.

Recycle picnic for lunch today. They had asked everyone to bring enough of something for 8 (so if you are a couple, bring enough for 16. 16?? REALLY??) Two other rules – no one goes back for seconds until all tables have been called up, and no one goes to the dessert table until all tables have been called. The reason stated was that then there would be food left for the cooks and servers when everyone had eaten.
I guess they were just being polite with their reasons for each person bringing so much, because as I watched plates go by I realized the reason is probably because people can be PIGS!! Many folks, rather than taking just a bit of their choices, helped themselves to what would normally be a full serving of each salad or appy they had chosen. And then they opened up the dessert table and WATCH OUT!! One fellow walked by with a plate loaded with desserts, and we figured he was bringing it for the whole table. NOPE!! They all had their own plates of dessert. He ate the whole thing himself. And then you see people scraping 1/2 full plates into the garbage. I’ll say it again, people can be pigs, and I’m sorry if I have insulted pigs.
Lazy afternoon after that. Happy hour with John & Donna, and joined by Dave & Debbie from Cleveland (she's a Toronto girl- GO CANADA GO!!), from the site behind us. Quiet evening in, and in bed by 9:30.

Thursday - Feb 20
Field trip again. This time we headed to Nogales, Mexico (half the town is in Arizona and the other half in Mexico). We parked our car on the US side and walked across to Mexico (this time we actually went through a gate - no red lights, YEAH!!). Well, we've been there, done that, don't need to do it again. It certainly didn't help our impression that all the main streets through the areas of interest to tourists were completely torn up. And considering that most labour in Mexico is manual, we wondered how long the roads have been like that, and how much longer before they're back to normal (or maybe that was normal). Maybe if we had taken a taxi (lots of offers as you come through the border) we might have been taken to a better area, but we weren't interested.
When we crossed back to the US side, we stopped in a liquor store and found some real bargains (amaretto 1 ltr - $35 at home and in the liquor stores here, $20 there). Unfortunately, we hadn't noticed it was a duty free shop. We should have stopped there before we went into Mexico, but then we would have had to carry it around with us. We can carry the duty free liquor into Mexico and back out again.
We stopped at Tubac for a while on the way back to Tucson. The guys headed to a restaurant patio for a beverage and to wait patiently. Donna and I wandered around for a while, but found most stuff overpriced, and before long headed over to meet up with the guys and hit the road for home and happy hour. Another shared dinner with McLaughlins, a couple more episodes of Mrs. Brown's Boys (from our hard drive) and then off to bed.
Friday – Feb 21
Started out the day with no plans, other than to keep tabs on the men's semi-final hockey game via my phone. Once that was over (with plenty of high-fiving around our part of the RV park and an offer from Dave & Debbie to join them at 5am Sunday), we decided we would head out after lunch with John and Donna for a ride across town. Headed back to Total Wine and Trader Joe’s to pick up some “stuff” and a quick stop to pick up John’s boots from the repair shop. Back in time for happy hour, joined today by Bill & Linda from Surrey, and Peter & Chris from 100 Mile. Then we headed over to Tiny’s with J&D and Peter & Chris for Friday’s special – fish & chips. Not as memorable as the steer burger the last time, but still decent food. Back to the park for night caps around the “fire pit”, then off to bed.
Until next time dear followers, talking to yourself is not a bad thing. Who else is going to tell you all the things you want to hear? (thanks to my friend, Gail, for this one)
