Awoke at 6am to hear rain pattering on the roof. Promptly snuggled up in the blankets and went back to sleep. Even if it stopped raining, it would be too wet to golf at our scheduled time. But rain it did, throughout the day and with various intensities. Made for a very lazy morning. Placed a couple of phone calls back home and didn't even have breakfast until 10:30 or 11. Guess we would call that brunch, with a very limited menu.
Early afternoon we decided we'd head west to the Morongo Casino Resort (next door to the outlet malls). Stopped first at the small outlet mall I hadn't visited when I was over there with Joan & Kelli last week. Only one or two of the stores seemed to be what I consider true outlet stores, with deep discounts, but that now seems to be the norm.
When we got to the casino, it was apparent that many, many people had the same idea as us - let's do something indoors today. The place was packed. We got our membership and free play money, but it seemed we spent more time looking for machines that would allow us to play small amounts at a time than we did actually playing. My preference is to play the penny machines, preferably no more than 10¢ at a time. The casinos are full of penny machines, but so many of them now have a minimum bid of 30¢ or more. So the ones with lower minimums are usually in use, especially when it's busy. We kept our own money out of the machines tonight, and made do with what they had given us. Enjoyed a lovely prime rib buffet, beside 200 or so new friends.
Highlight of the evening was watching the cars darting all over the place when we pulled in for gas at the casino. They were coming at the pumps from every direction, and driving between the vehicles being refueled. It was inevitable - I watched one car swing around to get to a pump, throw it in reverse to get a better angle, and back into the side of a car stopped at the exit.
Forecast is for more rain tomorrow until late afternoon, and then nothing but sunshine after that, and a return to the high 20's. Our time here is running out. Let's hope it doesn't feel just like home, weather-wise.
Stay tuned, dear readers.
