We had our dear, long time friends Dennis & Cheryl stay with us on Tuesday, Feb 13 (note I didn't say old - they're younger than us). They are wandering off to Havasu, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tucson and points in between, before returning to Mesa to spend a couple more nights with us, then flying home. Unfortunately, Arizona is experiencing a bit of a cool spell, which translates into cold when you're at the higher elevations around the Canyon and Sedona. Hopefully it will warm up here before they return.
Wednesday was a quiet, pretty much do-nothing day.
Thursday (15th) I was a bit shocked when Robin suggested we check out the Dillards clearance centre. One of the guys we met was telling him about the deals he got there, so off we went. I've never seen so much stuff in one place. And everything that was already marked down was an additional 50-60% off the last ticket price. You want a ladies t-shirt in size Medium; there are probably 5 double-sided racks about 40 feet long with just your size. And that's onlt the short sleeved ones. My dear friend Myrna, would have been in absolute heaven, and probably would have needed to rent a u-haul to get her purchases home.
Friday we went to happy hour with John and Fran and then, after dinner, we got together and played a few rousing rounds of crib -John and I teamed against Robin & Fran. Robin & Fran took us down hard on the tie-breaker round with a double skunk.
Saturday Fran and I met up with Bev to check out a quilt show. Very inspiring and some absolutely incredible pieces of what I can only describe as art. An enjoyable lunch before dropping Bev back home and heading home ourselves for a relaxed evening.
Sunday we headed out to Apache Junction with John and Fran, to meet up with Ken and Fay at Perry and Bev's for drinks and dinner. A fabulous meal put on by Bev, along with great company, made for a wonderful evening.
Monday was very cool and windy, windy, windy. The wind eventually dropped down and after dinner I wandered over to the patio to see if line dancing was still going ahead. There were about 20 diehards there, and the instructor and his wife, so I put my body through the workout again. Forgot to take my Tylenol before I went, so first order of business when I got back to the coach was to medicate. Really enjoy challenging my coordination and getting lost in the music. It was a bit difficult to concentrate tonight, as the Olympic Ice Dance finals were playing on the TV's at the bar across the patio. Fortunately I was back at the rig by the time the top teams performed. Congrats Virtue & Moir. Beautiful.

Tuesday we hopped in the car and headed up to Fountain Hills to have a look around. We had been up here a couple of years ago for an art festival, but just went to the festival and didn't get a chance to check out the area. Beautiful, relatively new town (and probably a little on the pricey side). After driving around we went to the Fort McDowell Casino for lunch and a bit of slot fun. Robin had been here a few weeks ago, when I was sick, and already had his membership, so I got mine, which |
which came with $10 in slot credits. I came away $7.50 to the good (since it wasn't my $10 to start with) and Robin dug in his pocket for some change and managed to turn it into a profit of $18. When we got back, we wandered over to the patio for a second happy hour they were having starting at 5. It was pretty chilly, but we spotted Jeff and Donna and sat with them for a while before we were driven back to the rig by the cold as the sun went down. Leann Rimes.was performing in the hall at our park this evening, so there was a steady stream of golf carts shuttling folks to and from the outside parking lot. It was flippin' cold tonight - I slept in my fleece housecoat.
Today, Wednesday, Feb 21 was a quiet day. The temperature never even hit 60 degrees. Oh well, better than home.
I want to take a moment to honour my dear Aunt Lorraine who passed away this morning at the age of 89. An amazing spinner and weaver (among other talents), a beautiful singer, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She will be deeply missed and so fondly remembered.
Until next time, dear readers.
