March 11 - 17
Monday, March 11 we woke to sunshine and beautiful blue skies, but cool temperatures. As the morning progressed, it warmed up. I had dressed for cool temps to go to line dancing – jeans and ¾ sleeve shirt. Between the warming sun and the sun canopy over the dance floor with all the people underneath, it wasn't long before I realized I was overdressed. Made for a good workout, and her class has been extended to 1.5 hours. YAHOO!! Changed into a skort and sleeveless top as soon as I got back home. By noon the clouds had started to roll in, although the temperature remained pleasant. By 3 it was starting to sprinkle (back into jeans and sleeved shirt) and by 5 it was outright rain, and it kept going all night – sometimes pouring and sometimes just a light patter.
Tuesday the rain just kept coming and periodically the wind picked up. During a break, with signs of blue skies to the west, Robin decided to go for a walk. A short time later, it started raining quite vigorously at the park again, and I figured Robin probably popped into a coffee shop somewhere. I went off with Paula to the fabric store and when I got back he was back home and dry. He said he didn't get any rain, but after he had turned around to walk back, he did notice after walking a while that the road behind him a ways was wet. Weird. Either the rain was following a bit behind, or he had a little accident.😬 The rain and wind kept up most of the day, leading to flooding at the west end of the park and closure of the west entry gates and various sports courts. Very few people out and about, even for happy hour which was moved indoors.
Wednesday the clouds finally cleared by around 9, but the winds continued for most of the day. There was a gathering of most of the folks on 4th Street South at one of the resident's park model – an annual season windup. Good chance to sit and chat with some of the folks we usually just say hi to on their way by. Sun was out, but the wind was chilly, so folks were wearing their jackets.
Friday was the annual Theme Day in the resort. This year they were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the park. There was food trucks, music and dancing all day (at both the pool patio and the main parking lot), a ferris wheel, and the annual Artisans' Show (paintings, woodwork and carving, silversmith, stained glass, photography, quilting, knitting and crocheting, etc. etc.). Name just about any craft and/or art and there is a group in the park showcasing their talents. The day finished up with a great band in the main parking lot, just a few steps away from our site. We gathered a few folks to listen to the music loud and clear from our place, without the need to yell in order to carry on a conversation, and without fighting the crowd. Weather was perfect during the day - if it gets too hot, this can often lead to a few seniors down for the count, especially after drinking for the better part of the day. It didn't cool off too drastically after sundown. Party animals that we are, we sat out until 10pm (which also happens to be the official start of quiet time).
Saturday – beautiful, sunny day. Finally starting to get some colour in my skin. In the evening we were off to Mike & Lynn's for an early birthday celebration for Mike's 72nd. Three of his four kids were here and put on a great meal for a group of us, and we had another fun evening of laughter and camaraderie. And we finally got to meet the two kids we hadn't had the opportunity to meet yet. Of course, when I say kids, I'm talking about adults old enough to stay in this park (just), but to us they're kids.
Sunday, March 17th and Happy St Patrick's Day. Easy going morning, and then we headed off to an Irish pub for a late lunch with Rick & Karen. The place was packed, inside and out, and we were put on a wait list for a table inside. Fortunately we didn't have to wait much more than a half hour, as we were enjoying a pre-lunch beer standing at a table set up in the parking lot, with no umbrella or shade anywhere in site. Great food and great atmosphere, it being a Sunday (lots of families) AND St Paddy's. Bevvies and visiting back out our site with Rich & Karen, joined by Bruce & Willie, then spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening reading in the sunshine.
Signing off with some pictures from the last couple of hikes Robin has taken.
